Supply Chain and Manufacturing Engineer

Mission

The mission of the Rorus Supply Chain Engineer is to establish sourcing and manufacturing for new product lines and manage the provision of products for our customers across all sales channels. This role will focus on timely delivery of new products, reducing unit costs, and providing for our irregular demand cycle.

About the Company

Rorus makes the world’s most usable and affordable drinking-water filters because safety needs to be simple. Rorus is an American for-profit startup company with an Indian subsidiary company. We make safer water filters for developing countries and disaster relief. We've been recognized in Forbes 30 Under 30, won SXSW, and Collision Conf. Our filters have been used in India, Nigeria, Nepal, Tanzania, and the US.

Every day, 8,000 people die from drinking contaminated water. Other water purification methods are either too difficult to use or too expensive. Affordable options, like solar disinfection, are hard to use and tedious. Comprehensive and easy options, such as bottled water and reverse osmosis, are too expensive. People use these purifiers incorrectly or don’t use them at all and get sick.

Rorus makes portable and household water filters that work for people, rather than making them work for their water. Our designs translate across languages and cultures. We make water filters that break the pattern by being both cost effective and easy to use.

We have four full-time employees: three in the US and one in India.

Role Responsibilities

  • Scaling from prototyped designs to mass-manufactured products. Tasks include:
    • Learning each prototype’s design priorities from our product designers and cooperating with manufacturers to achieve them.
    • Determining necessary QA and QC guidelines.*
    • Locating, vetting, and onboarding new manufacturing operations into the system.
    • Being the main point of contact for new and existing overseas manufacturers. Tasks include creating and tracking PO’s and implementing process improvement.
  • Understanding our sales team’s projections and expected variance for product demand and monitoring the production pipeline to prevent stockouts.
  • Organizing fulfillment operations including e-commerce, bulk sales, urgent disaster relief orders, and possibly retail.*
  • Minimizing production, fulfillment, shipping, and storage costs.
  • Building and managing our MRB and inventory management systems.*

*These responsibilities will likely become a separate role as we grow the team. At that time, the SCE will be responsible for working closely with this newer employee to complete the same goals more efficiently.

Employment Logistics

  • This a full-time opportunity in New Delhi, India or in our office in Austin, TX. We strongly prefer to hire in India. We do not yet have an office space in India, but we will consider the need for one in the coming years. Until then, you may work from any appropriate location.
  • This job will require travel, often to China, the US, or India, and working with people in various time zones. You will likely have to travel alone and to remote, low-infrastructure locations.
  • Working hours are flexible and not expected to be limited to typical business hours. This role will start in June or July of 2017. We prefer to start with a 2-month contract to test your fit in the role.
